Hotel Details:
Grand Hyatt Shenzhen opened in 2009 with 471 luxurious rooms and suites, each designed with large floor-to-ceiling picture windows that frame views of the city skyline or mountain views. The spacious accommodations blend contemporary elegance with functional comfort.
Points vs Cash Value Analysis
This is also a Award Category 2 property which costs 9,500 points per night for awards redemption. This hotel, on normal days would costs around CNY 1,000. Taking one of the latest data points with acquisition cost of Hyatt Points at USD 1.9 cents back in Dec 2024, this will bring the valuation of the various room types on normal days to:
| Room Type | Cash Rate (per night) | Awards Rate | Value at redemption |
| King /Twin Bed | CNY 993 | 9,500 | USD 1.4 cents |
| King Bed (Club Access) | CNY 1,382 | 13,500 | USD 1.4 cents |
| Grand Suite | CNY 1,660 | 14,500 | USD 1.6 cents |
| Grand Executive Suite | CNY 2,364 | 19,000 | USD 1.7 cents |
Math favours redemption when value at acquisition is lower than value at redemption, which may be more likely to happen during peak period. Thus, it would be more favourable for you to use cash instead of points for this property, with consideration towards the cash rates that you will be paying.

Booking & Check-In
As a Hyatt Discoverist member (the program’s entry-level tier), I booked the King Bedroom directly through World of Hyatt and, unsurprisingly, received no complimentary upgrade at check-in despite visible availability. This highlights a key reality: meaningful perks like room upgrades at Hyatt properties truly begin at Explorist status (mid-tier) and above.
The hotel’s Luohu District location delivers outstanding connectivity:
✔ 5-minute access to Luohu Border Crossing (ideal for Hong Kong day trips)
✔ 750m (2-min drive) from Shenzhen Railway Station – with frequent HSR service to Guangzhou (30min) and Dongguan (15min)
✔ 800m (15-min walk) to Grand Theatre Metro Station (Lines 1/2/8) – though less convenient with luggage

Let’s be real—this hotel isn’t the most convenient for frequent airport runs. A Didi ride to Bao’an Airport (SZX) costs CNY 50–70 and takes 40+ minutes, while public transport involves two metro transfers and nearly an hour of hassle.
If your Shenzhen trip is airport-centric (early flights/late arrivals), you’re better off in Nanshan or Futian (closer, faster transfers). But here’s the twist: this place shines for cross-border travelers—it’s 5 minutes to the Luohu’s Hong Kong border and 2 minutes drive away from Shenzhen HSR Station (for Guangzhou/Dongguan).

The hotel’s check-in lobby begins on the 33rd floor, offering sky-high arrival views with mountains as it’s backdrop, while restaurants are clustered between L32M and L35-L38. Guest rooms span from L5-L31 with it’s spa facilities located on L3.
It’s also kind of silly that you will have to get up to L33 (Hotel Lobby) or L3 (Spa & Fitness) in order to change a lift that will bring you to the guest rooms, if you’re coming back after you’re checked in.

The Room
As a 5-star Grand Hyatt, this property stands out for its spacious rooms, which feels almost luxurious compared to Hong Kong’s notoriously cramped hotels (where even high-end rooms often max out at 250 sqft for King Bed Room. In China, hotel rooms average around 300–400 sqft, the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen definitely stands out with generous 500 sqft base rooms and ranging up to 3500 sqft for it’s Chairman Suite.
The room assigned today is situated on the 23rd-floor. The first impression is pure opulence—a black marble entrance and a rich wooden column that artfully divides the space, framing the bathtub and walk-in shower right at the room’s heart. It’s a bold, almost theatrical design choice, blending modern luxury with a touch of drama which is also kind of strange as we are “entering” into a toilet along the walkway.

The table below summarises the type of room, size and in-room amenities available in Hyatt Centric Hong Kong for simplicity purpose:
| Type of Room | Size | In-Room Amenities |
| King Bed Two-Twin Bed | 495 sqft or 46 sqm | -65” TV with cable/satellite channels – Oversize work desk – Individual climate control -Marble bathroom with a walk-in shower |

Since this was a quick business trip, I booked the base room (cash rate: ~CNY 1,000) and was assigned a Buji River view with residential buildings—hardly thrilling, but perfectly functional for a work stay. While the hotel offers spectacular city/skyline views in higher-tier rooms, the lack of scenery didn’t matter much when I was just crashing between meetings.

Bathroom
The bathroom layout is a bit unusual—entering the room, you’re immediately greeted by the toilet and shower area, which can feel awkward, especially with the bathroom in direct view from the bed and the door. You’re literally in the middle of the room.
Nonetheless, the bathroom is an absolute standout that is wrapped in sleek black marble walls and flooring, accented with rich wooden columns for a warm, contemporary contrast. The AXOR Hansgrohe rain shower and handheld sprayer deliver excellent water pressure, while Balmain Paris toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash) add a high-end touch.

Grand Hyatt Shenzhen elevates the bathroom experience with Balmain Paris toiletries—a rare and indulgent detail in today’s cost-cutting hospitality landscape. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash comes in a bottle that you probably will not be able to bring back. Infused with the French fashion house’s signature woody, citrus-tinged fragrance—a subtle but unmistakable upgrade from standard offerings.

A Toto Washlet smart toilet with an integrated bidet washer, heated seat, and automatic flush is also included in the toilet that even opens the toilet cover when you’re close.

The bathroom is impressive with its black marble walls, Toto Washlet toilet, and Balmain amenities, but surprisingly lacks a double vanity.

Tucked between the bathroom’s vanity and the main entrance, the walk-in wardrobe is a surprisingly practical touch in the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen’s layout. This is also where you could find iron, safe box and bathrobes.

Minibar
The minibar at Grand Hyatt Shenzhen is very well-stocked, typical 5 star standards. However, it is good to note that the items come with a price tag.

The fridge stocks Voss sparkling and still water, soft drinks, and an assortment of alcoholic beverages including Heineken, Qingdao beer, and mini bottles of Bombay Sapphire gin, Absolut vodka, and Chivas Regal whisky – all available at typical 5-star hotel markups.

The setup includes a Nespresso Essenza Mini coffee machine with capsules, Twinings teas with a ceramic teapot, and two complimentary bottles of 5100 Tibet Spring mineral water (additional bottles are charged).

While the offerings are undeniably luxurious, budget-conscious travelers may prefer to enjoy the complimentary tea and coffee setup while sourcing other drinks from nearby stores. The inclusion of proper tea service and specialty mineral water shows attention to detail, though the chargeable nature of even basic items like extra water bottles reminds guests this is firmly in indulgence territory. For those willing to splurge, it’s a well-stocked minibar; for others, the Nespresso machine and initial water bottles provide enough refreshment without the premium price tag.
Pool & Gym
Perched on 3F, the Grand Hyatt Shenzhen’s 25-meter temperature-controlled outdoor pool. Fitness enthusiasts will love the expansive gym, fully equipped with a wide range of weight machines, treadmills, and even a mini golf area for a playful workout twist.

There’s also a dedicated yoga room for those seeking a more mindful session.

What’s impressive is that even the showers in the gym are stocked with Balmain toiletries—the same luxurious range provided in the guest rooms.

Breakfast
Perched on the 32nd floor, the breakfast restaurant dazzles with panoramic city views that rival its culinary spread—an impressive mix of high-quality international and local fare. The buffet spans from made-to-order eggs and fresh dim sum to European charcuterie and tropical fruits, all prepared with attention to detail. Standouts include the live noodle station and silky congee with premium toppings, while the bright, airy space ensures every table feels like the best seat in the house.

Breakfast with a view is taken to the next level at Level 32 of Grand Hyatt Shenzhen. The panoramic view is just remarkable.

The stunning backdrop does puts a little more points to the meal (which was already very good actually).

One detail that stood out during my stay at Grand Hyatt Shenzhen was the Nespresso Aguila 220, a professional-grade machine that uses Nespresso pods to serve its coffee.

Unfortunately, with so many options available, I couldn’t capture everything and only got to sample a bit of each. However, I can confidently say that the breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had.

Value Verdict
Grand Hyatt Shenzhen delivers spacious, well-appointed rooms with genuine luxury touches like Balmain toiletries and a stellar breakfast spread featuring panoramic city views. However, some areas—like the dated design and the awkward bathroom placement—reveal the property’s age. The location is ideal for cross-border travel (steps from Luohu Border and Shenzhen Railway Station), though the 15-minute walk to the nearest metro may deter some.
While maintaining the Grand Hyatt standard of luxury, the Shenzhen property offers significantly more competitive rates than its counterparts in high-cost cities like Hong Kong and Singapore. Room rates here typically run 50-60% lower than comparable Grand Hyatt properties in those markets, making it an excellent value proposition for business and leisure travelers seeking five-star accommodations without the premium price tag.
